Is the “Use By” date valid once the package is opened?
The “Use By” date on the package is only good for an unopened package. Once the package is opened, you should consume the product within 3 days or freeze to preserve quality, freshness, and flavor.
Why is the “Use By” date only valid for an unopened package?
Once the package is opened the product is exposed to oxygen and any bacteria that you may have on your hands or other surfaces. Over time this will cause food spoilage, which can make you ill. Therefore, we recommend consuming within 3 days of opening and storing the leftovers in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
Can I freeze your products?
Absolutely! We recommend freezing if you are not going to eat the entire package within 3 days of opening; this helps to preserve quality and flavor. We recommend freezing our smoked sausage, breakfast links and chorizo for no longer than 2 months, and our bacon for no longer than 3 months. Once thawed, enjoy within a day to maintain optimal quality.
